My teaching philosophy revolves around responsibility, accountability, and immersion in the target language. Students need to be held responsible for their learning. I believe a teacher prepares an objective and it is the student's responsibility to reach the goal. Teachers provide the materials and atmosphere for the student to learn, but the student needs to be aware that it is on them to comply with the objective and learning of the target language.
As an English language teacher, I believe immersion is the best method to teach a new language. The teacher uses the target language as the vehicle to impart the class and the student needs to make an effort to comprehend and acquire the language for effective learning. In an immersion classroom, the student has an overall experience on the target language.
Regarding classroom management, I am a firm believer of behaviorism. I believe giving students rewards for their effort in an ESL class is an incentive of language learning because students are motivated to excel and get the rewards. Also, behaviorism focuses on using observable behavior to prove learning. I believe this evidence is crucial in a second language classroom because it shows progress and acquisition of a new language.
