Autobiography

Who is Mr. M. De Jesús?

I was born on August 7, 1993 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. I currently reside in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. At a young age, I showed an interest (dare I say, passion) towards teaching, literature, and languages. During my elemenyary years, I studied at the prestigious Colegio Dr. Roque Díaz Tizol and finished high school at Escuela Superior Luis Muñoz Marín in Yabucoa. In these years, I showcased my acting and writing talents in various activities such as talent shows, creative writing competitions, and so on. In August 2011, I was admitted to the English - Secondary Level program at the University of Puerto Rico in Humacao (UPRH). I have been actively participating in student associations and activities. The first association I joined, back in September 2011, was Círculo Literario Vértigo of the Spanish Department at said university. I was president of this association in the academic year of 2013 - 2014. On October 2013, I became the Executive Secretary of the UPRH Student Body during the academic year of 2013 - 2014. On September 2014, I renewed my position as Executive Secretary and currently am an active member of the Student Body. On March 2014, I founded The UPRH Creative Writing Workshop which was recognized as an official student association on October 2014. For founding a student association, I was recognized at the UPRH's Noche de Logros under the category of Creativity in 2014. I am president of the association and peer mentor of our members. I have had some of my creative work published in various publications such as Vuelos del Vértigo, from the student association Círculo Literario Vértigo, and Corpus Litterarum: La Revista de las Nuevas Voces, an initiative by students at the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras. I envision myself as a professor. Right now, my interests range from literacy education, bilingual education and rhetoric and composition. I am currently in my fourth (and last) year and I am doing my Practice Teaching from January to May 2015 at the Alfonso Casta Martínez High School in Maunabo, Puerto Rico. After graduating, I will pursue masters' degrees in the fields of TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) and bilingual education. Hopefully, this will be enough to apply for a doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition. Also, I wish to teach in other countries to enrich my teaching style with foreign cultures. I am an avid reader and writer of poetry and narrative. I also like to watch anime/T.V. series, listen to indie music and play video games.
